Long rural driveways need a site conversation
Before asking for a price, measure or estimate the length and width and note any soft spots, steep sections, drainage paths, or areas where large trucks may have trouble turning.
Culverts and drainage
Water needs somewhere to go. Tell the contractor about ditches, culverts, low areas, and runoff that crosses the planned drive. If the driveway connects to a county road, ask the county what requirements apply to that connection before work begins. We do not state or interpret county roadway rules.
Think about the traffic
A driveway serving a house may see different use than one serving a shop, RV, delivery trucks, trailers, or heavy equipment. Tell the contractor what will regularly drive on it so they can discuss the appropriate plan.
